TOKYO
SEX DESTRUCTION – Black Noise is the New Sound (BCore)
Tokyo Sex Destruction is an American band who spend most of their time
touring in Europe, and they made this record in Barcelona. The press
sheet, which was written in English by someone for whom English is a
second language, calls Tokyo Sex Destruction "psicodelic", which
is probably pretty accurate since it’s not exactly psychedelic, but
it’s close. I hear some Doors and Hendrix influences, but also MC5, The
Animals and Zeppelin. Yet, even with all those 30-year-old influences,
they still sound fresh and modern, thanks to some top-flight production.
Not that it sounds slick; there’s still plenty of garage type atmosphere
and reverb. The songs are all fast and they play ‘em loud. I get the
impression they’d be a blast to see live, but I don’t feel like flying
to
Barcelona
. The bottom line is that this is a fun record of danceable garage rock,
suitable for your next party or barbeque blowout. – Brian Mosher
