FLOGGING
MOLLY- Drunken
Lullabies (Side One
Dummy) I wasn’t so sure if it was fair to have myself review this cd
due to how much I loved FM’s first release, Swagger.
In my mind, there was no way this cd could even come close to how great I
found Swagger to be. Very few cds blow me away like Swagger did, and still
does. Therefore, I was basically prejudicial towards Drunken Lullabies.
However, since I have stated my true love for Swagger, I feel that I have
scaled my musical emotions accordingly. With their sophomore full length
release, FM is back with twelve more heavily Irish influenced songs.
Loaded with punk rock energy, the songs never fail to motivate and
beautifully combine traditional Irish music, rock, and punk rock for an
infectious, as well as contagious, sound. The cd raucously opens with the
title track, which perfectly sets the tone for the remaining eleven tunes.
Oddly enough and although I love Dave King’s vocals, my favorite song
here, “Cruel Mistress,” is sung by Bassist Nathen Maxwell. Does
Drunken Lullabies stand up to Swagger? No, and it doesn’t have to. It
does fine on its own. Another great Flogging Molly cd. – Denis Sheehan
