FACE TO FACE /
DROPKICK MURPHYS
split (Vagrant)
Two big names in punk rock; Face to Face, to me, is over rated. Dropkick
Murphys, to me, is one great Irish influenced punk band. This split cd is
made up of three songs from each band. F2F play fast semi-punk/rock music
and offer their usual sound. Not that it’s bad, but it certainly isn’t
anything special. One of their three songs is a cover of DM’s “Road of
the Righteous.” Another is “Wasted Life,” originally by Stiff Little
Fingers. On the flipside (not really), DM play three great Irish punk
songs. That’s Kay Hanley, of Letters to Cleo and Josie and the Pussycats
fame, singing in “The Dirty Glass.” I believe it was Kay who grabbed
Denis’ ass in The Rat approximately ten years ago. Great song! Next up
is a cool cover of CCR’s “Fortunate Son.” This is my favorite CCR
song, and thankfully, DM does it justice. Press’ “21 Gun Salute”
comes next, and like the previous two, it’s a great song. The first
three songs on this cd are good, but buy this one for the last three. –
