DEBUTANTES-
Late Night Shutdown (Site)
Dizzyingly swirling guitars and atonally reeling vocals combine to create
a vertigo inducing atmosphere as The Debutantes spin their way through
this 10 song collection. Somewhat reminiscent of the early R.E.M.
records, Late Night Showdown features smart, well-crafted songs about
bleak landscapes and hopeless nights spent wandering neon-lit streets.
And then, every once in a while, the guitar explodes into a feedback
frenzy, ala Sonic Youth, just to make sure you're still paying attention.
I wouldn't recommend operating heavy machinery while listening to this
record, but I can imagine that it would make a nice compliment to whatever
mind-altering substance you prefer to indulge. I'm going to try
listening to it in my car on the way home from work tonight, so if you
don't hear from me again you can assume that I wrapped my Civic around a
telephone pole due to the polyphonic trance I've fallen into. - Brian
