FIGHT
FOR YOUR LIFE (Blue
Underground) 1977. I have no idea how to categorize this movie. 86
minutes. Not Rated. After escaping from a prison transport bus, three
convicts embark on a violent rampage that leads to the home invasion of a
black family. While making themselves at home, the three criminals push
the family to defend themselves in more ways than one.
As
I watched this grindhouse classic, I honestly could not believe that it
once played in movie theaters and even ran tv spots! Loaded with violence
and severe racial degradation, Fight for Your Life is a sure bet to shock
some, make others (the politically correct clowns) shake their fist in
disgust, and will definitely bring a smile to the face of Senator Robert
Byrd (D-WV) as he recalls with a chuckle the
good ol’ days when he was a recruiter for the KKK. I admit that I am one
jaded douche bag when it comes to this kind of crap, but I often found
myself laughing, not out of pleasure, but out of disbelief at the endless
barrage of racial slurs. As bad as the verbal racial attacks are, there is
an act of violence that simply pushes this movie over the edge and
actually made me say out loud “You’ve gotta be fucking kidding me!”
On the lighter side of things, I did find it amusing that for such three
scummy criminals, none of them chewed with their mouth open while
ingesting dinner. Miss Manners would be proud. Some cinema nerds may
recognize head scumball as one William Sanderson, who’s been in a ton of
stuff, but nothing really worth writing about here. DVD extras include:
commentary by writer Straw Weisman and director of photography Llyod
Freidus, trailers, tv spots, poster/still gallery. Exploitation fans will
dig Fight for Your Life for its shear nastiness while sufferers of white
guilt syndrome will find this DVD to be an affective tool for superb self
abuse. – Denis Sheehan
