A
PERFECT CANDIDATE (First
Run Features) 1996. 105 minutes. Not Rated.
With insane inside access, a camera crew follows the 1994 U.S. Senate
campaign of Oliver North (Iran-Contra fame).
Although
I summed up A Perfect Candidate with one sentence, this DVD gives the
viewer the perfect chance to see what a bunch of jack-offs we have for
politicians. How these turds, I mean the turds covered in A Perfect
Candidate, got themselves into such a position to run for U.S. Senate is
beyond me. Even more horrifying is knowing that it’s the same way in
every state of the
Union
. Nobody looks or comes across well in this documentary; not the
candidates, not the voters, and even the guys running the campaigns are
goofballs. Since I am a rabid political junkie, I was absolutely
enthralled with this documentary and I highly recommend it. However, if
you’re not into politics you may not enjoy the topic or find yourself
bored. Extras include; commentary by the directors, candidates’ reaction
to the movie, etc. You know, it should take more than money and the
ability to speak in public to run for political office. Sometimes you just
have to shake your head and either laugh, or cry. Political cynics,
rejoice. – Denis Sheehan
